Christine Flowers: Bloodthirsty Liar
Just yesterday, I was talking about how our media’s failure to report truthfully leads people to demagogues like Alex Jones. Today’s op-ed by the Shame of Philadelphia (TM) Christine Flowers proves my point yet again, with an entire series of blatant falsehoods that her editors Michael Schefer and Sandra Shea have no problem publishing.
So instead of his swift and relatively painless death, maybe we should have taken him alive for a bout of some “extraordinary rendition,” which many sensible observers are now saying provided crucial information in the hunt for bin Laden. (Thank you, Alberto Gonzales, and thank you, John Yoo, for those so-called torture memos. Apparently, they worked.)
That’s just false. Even John McCain confirms it’s a lie. So does Donald Rumsfeld himself. Flowers’ own colleagues at the Daily News report that a “senior Air Force interrogator…told the Daily News last night he believes that the waterboarding of top bin Laden aides in the early 2000s may have actually slowed down the search by a couple of years.”. Why does the Daily News keep publishing the insane ramblings of a demonstrated liar? Why would a news organization go out of their way to misinform and mislead their readers? As has been said, you can have your own opinion, but you can’t have your own facts: that is exactly what Flowers is doing here, with the blessing of her editors.
She adds onto her pile of lies moments later:
And since I’m giving out thank-yous, we should send flowers to President Bush, on whose watch the intelligence and military framework necessary to execute this triumph was developed.
This is the same Bush who dismantled the bin laden unit of the CIA, and then famously said he was “truly not that concerned” about finding him, adding “I don’t know where he is, nor do I… (really care).”. Watch for yourself, and tell me: is Christine Flowers uninformed or is she just lying?
Finally, we get to catch a fascinating glimpse into the Flowers mentality, and all i can say is I’m glad the woman-hating harridan never had kids, because she is clearly mentally ill:
Instead of giving bin Laden a burial that allegedly comported at least in some ways with Islamic tradition, we should’ve chopped him up into 3,000 pieces, one for each of the deaths on 9/11, photographed them for a nice display at a modern-art gallery (right next to the crucifixes in urine) and then tossed them on the scrap heap of history.
…this, along with some aptly psychotic quote from the Old Testament, right after condemning Muslims for being brutal religious zealots.
What never enters Christine Flowers giant empty head is the fact that doing such things would simply provide Islamic extremists with more propaganda, and would alienate our allies across the spectrum, who would see us as no better than people like Robert Mugabe. Has Flowers never seen the funerals that follow, for example, Israeli air-strikes in Palestine or drone attacks in Afghanistan?? Does she not know that after the processions come the suicide bombers and rocket attacks? Does she really want to make things even worse for our overseas troops? Is she truly that fucking stupid?
Or did I just answer my own question?
One final thought: it is easy to go after Christine Flowers for having these idiotic and deeply dishonest viewpoints. The real blame however lies with her employers and editors, who allow her to lie with impunity, refuse to check her facts for even a modicum of reality, and make the strongest efforts possible to mislead and misguide their readers. You wanna know why people don’t trust the media anymore? It’s because of dishonest enablers like Michael Schefer and Sandra Shea, who will publish anything that gins up controversy, in their endless quest for a dollar.
is it worth it guys?

Brendan-
I think her employers keep her because she’s entertaining. Controversy = eyeballs = advertising revenue. She’s a low rent Coulter.

But that’s the thing: she’s NOT entertaining, except when she writes about sports (in which case Christine is quite good).
i get the C=E=AR, but the lengths she goes to to generate C, to the point of publishing outright lies, is to be condemned.
