Dear Senator Merkley: Stop Wasting My Fucking Time

calling bullshit, economy, oil, politics April 29th, 2011

Email from the AM, purportedly by Jeff Merkely, Oregon Democrat:

brendan -

Yesterday, the price of regular gasoline in Oregon hit $3.90 a gallon – and $4.30 for diesel. And while our families and small businesses are struggling to keep up with these skyrocketing fuel prices, the world’s biggest oil companies are posting billions in profits.

Just this week, BP announced a first-quarter profit of over $7 billion. ConocoPhillips reported over $3 billion. At the same time, these oil companies are getting billions every year in taxpayer subsidies. So our middle-class families pay twice – once at the pump and once again through their taxes.

For decades, politicians have talked about reducing our dependence on foreign oil. It’s time to do something about it. I’m committed to aggressively advancing my plan to eliminate all imports of oil from outside North America by 2030. We should continue to invest in the development and deployment of electric vehicles, improve mass transit and freight transport, develop alternative fuels, and make buildings more energy efficient.

Creating a clean energy future isn’t just an environmental issue. It’s also about national security and economic security.

I’ve just returned from a fact-finding trip to China. Make no mistake: The Chinese are making critical investments in these areas. I saw a facility where they’re working on algae-to-biodiesel production. I rode a Chinese high-speed passenger train. I saw the solar manufacturing facility in Xi’an, and I visited the city of Chengdu – China’s model “new energy city”.

In the 20th century, America led the world in technological innovation. Our challenge in the 21st century is to maintain that leadership when it comes to clean energy and transportation.

America has never backed down from a challenge. And we can do this – if we finally say “no more” to Big Oil and “yes” to good jobs, new technology and more opportunities here at home.

The Big Oil companies are doing just fine – it’s time to invest in a brighter future for the rest of us.

Jeff Merkley

First of all, FUCKO, stop calling me Brendan: you’re not my friend, you don’t know me from Adam, and you forgot to capitalize it.

Second of all, speaking as a 40 year old man who’s been around the block a couple of times, I’m so tired of hearing about what we need to do in place of actually doing something that I could claw your eyes out.

Forty fucking years dude: that how long I’ve been hearing about our energy problem. I have very vague memories of the 1970s oil embargo, sitting in the back of the cop car my dad bought at auction, waiting in line at the pump. I remember the first Iraq war, which despite all the happy-crappy about freeeeeeedumb was about oil. And we’re still engaged in Iraq war number two, which some of the more loose-lipped among your fellow political elites have admitted was also about oil. I’m in California right now, where gas is more than $4.00 a gallon.

Hey Jeff, friendly reminder: we handed you and your fucking useless party a mandate in 2006 and another one in 2012. You didn’t do fuck-all with it. In fact, your President decided that it’d be a better idea to open up our coasts to off-shore oil drilling: remember? And he agreed to cut funding for high speed rail so his Republican friends wouldn’t have hurt fee-fees. Dude, your fellow democrats voted to prevent the EPA from regulating carbon.

So here’s an idea, Jeff: instead of wasting MY time with a stupid fucking email about all the shit we need to do, shit we’ve needed to do for forty years and counting, why not pass some fucking laws and do something about it?

But you’re not gonna do THAT are you? Nope, it’s just gonna be more blah blah blah blah blah blah. Blah-de-blah blah blah. Blabbity blabbity blab.

You, your party, your opposition, and your entire institution are as useless as tits on a fucking bull.

With more sincerity than you’ve ever had in your entire body,
Brendan Skwire
