Speaking of Women’s Reproductive Rights
Attention all women in Washington DC whose rights have been thrown in the garbage can by the Democratic President and his Republican allies.
Forced to carry a baby you don’t want to term, due to men like Barack Obama and John Boehner who don’t believe you have the right to self-determination? Appalled and terrified of ruining your life raising an unwanted child, possibly on your own?
I invite you to avail yourself of Washington DC’s Safe Haven Laws:
For the purpose of this act, the term:
(1) “Newborn” means an infant who a licensed physician or the person authorized to accept the surrender reasonably believes is 7 days old or less.
(2) “Surrender” means to bring a newborn to a hospital, police station, fire station, or emergency medical facility and to leave the newborn with personnel of the facility when the person leaving the newborn does not express an intent to return for the newborn or states that he or she will not return for the newborn or when a mother gives birth in a hospital and following the birth expresses the intent to leave the hospital without the newborn and to not return for the newborn and leaves the hospital without the newborn.Sec. 3. Surrendering.
(a) Except when there is actual or suspected child abuse, a parent who surrenders a newborn shall have the right to remain anonymous and to leave the place of surrendering at any time and shall not be pursued or prosecuted for giving up the newborn.
(b) Surrendering a newborn infant in accordance with this act, and rules promulgated pursuant to this act, shall not, by itself, constitute a basis for a finding of abuse, neglect, or abandonment a newborn.
(c) The personnel receiving the surrendered newborn shall make reasonable efforts to anonymously obtain family and medical history and attempt to provide the surrendering parent information on adoption and counseling services.
Let me put this in clear language: you can surrender your unwanted child to the police, fire department, EMT, or a hospital up to seven days after it’s born. You cannot be prosecuted for doing so. You don’t have to give your name or any contact information. And while the personnel accepting your unwanted burden have to make reasonable efforts to obtain medical information, YOU DON’T HAVE TO PROVIDE IT.
I made some calls about this a few months back, and the Capitol Police is one of the places you can leave your unwanted baby. It is the State that insists that you bear the child, so naturally, it is the State that should take care of it.
Ladies, I suggest you march right up the steps of the House of Representatives and give your unwanted baby to the Capitol Hill Police, perhaps with instructions to deliver it to John Boehner’s office. Or maybe drop by a White House tour, and leave it with the Capitol Police there. They HAVE to take it.
Obama and Boehner may not give a shit about your reproductive rights, so let THEM deal with the consequences of their irresponsible and harmful policies.
