FWIW

life, meta January 15th, 2011

I have felt GREAT since I imposed a news blackout on myself. It’s been freeing. I’d expected the blackout to be over by the time Sam went home in early January, but then I had Elvisfest, which didn’t leaveme any time to get back into the swing of the news, and then I started t a new position, and that’s been busy too. I’ve been playing more music, learning the ropes of the new job, and visiting prospective sites for my 2012 wedding. In fact, the longer I go without reading the news or listening to NPR, the more reluctant I am to start up again. And since my am station does “traffic on the 2s” I can generally constrain my listening to local road conditions.

I never thought I’d say this, but Barbara Bush was right: “Oh, I mean, it’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?”

There’s nothing you can do to change anything, so you might as well enjoy yourself as much as you can.
