SCOTUS Decision

So the Supreme Court has spoken, and America is no longer a nation, but a subsidiary of the the Corporation. The Democracy Experiment was fun while it lasted, but apparently we were not able to keep our Republic, as Franklin had hoped.

It’s gonna be quite a ride for the foreseeable future, because if this is allowed to stand (more on that in a moment), any efforts to run reform or progressive candidates will be crushed by the deep pockets of corporations, many of which aren’t even based in the United States. the government will be bought and paid for by the very same corporations we elect politicians to rein in.

I say “if it’s allowed to stand” because, in theory, the Constitution could be amended to re-establish that First Amendment protections (except for freedom of the press) do not apply to for-profit corporations.

In reality, we are saddled with an ossified and corrupt government that cannot even pass necessary health care reform because they are beholden to the corporations that contribute already-massive sums to their campaigns. There is no way that such an amendment will be adopted. No way at all.

The USA, for all intents and purposes, is done. And in recognition of that, I offer you a message, in the form of a Fleshtones song: “Let’s Go.”

They’ve always been bigger in Europe anyway. “let’s go… let’s get out of here!”
