Lieberman Rewards His Friends With a Shiv in the Ribs
Earlier this week, Chris Dodd stood up for the old boy’s club in the Senate:
Last week Chris Dodd said he might support Joe Lieberman as an independent in 2012. And yesterday after Lieberman threatened to take the unprecedented and historic move of joining the Republicans to break the caucus’s filibuster-proof majority, Dodd said there would be no consequence
Dodd went so far as to say that reprimanding Lieberman would be “ridiculous”.
How did Joe Lieberman return the favor from his old friend? Why, by promising to back Republicans in 2012!
“I probably will support some Republican candidates for Congress or Senate in the election in 2010. I’m going to call them as I see them,” Lieberman said in an ABC News “Subway Series” interview aboard the U.S. Capitol Subway System…
Lieberman infuriated fellow Democrats in 2008 by supporting Republican presidential nominee John McCain as well as congressional candidates Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y.
The moves nearly cost Lieberman his chairmanship of the Commerce Committee, but after promising to be a loyal Democrat he was allowed to keep his gavel.
That doesn’t sound like loyalty to me, and it’s sure a hell of a way to say thanks to the guy sticking up for you.
As my friend Noz says, “i have a deal for the democratic leadership! i’ll promise to donate a gazillion dollars to every one of your reelection campaigns if you make me chairman of the senate finance committee today. go ahead and appoint me. the check’s in the mail.”
No accountability, no consequences, no fuckin’ brains.
