Daleks
Over the weekend, the Huffington Post published an article that stated:
President Barack Obama is actively discouraging Senate Democrats in their effort to include a public insurance option with a state opt-out clause as part of health care reform. In its place, say multiple Democratic sources, Obama has indicated a preference for an alternative policy, favored by the insurance industry, which would see a public plan “triggered” into effect in the future by a failure of the industry to meet certain benchmarks.
This is all backed up with the kind of anonymous quotes that make me want to tear my hair out. But as jane Hamsher notes, this theme keeps coming up.
Honestly, I’m not sure who to believe anymore, but that’s not exactly my point here.
Upon publication of the Huffington Post article, a substantial number of Daily Kos readers proclaimed their outrage, calling out “A gradual decline in the Huffington Post’s liberal slant and ethical standards”; and that they are “really screwy and right wing tooly”.
This goes on in comments as well. Glenn Greenwald noticed too:
Obama-venerating readers of Daily Kos this morning have declared Huffington Post to be suspect, untrustworthy, and even “right-wing” in a top recommended diary. A poll accompanying that dairy finds that 57% of readers believe that Huffington Post — which just recently hired Dan Froomkin as its Washington Bureau Chief — “is turning conservative.” In other words, Huffington Post reported on facts which reflect poorly on the leader and which contradict what they are eager to believe. Anyone who does that must be discredited, impugned and declared to be the enemy.
I like to wade into these posts by posting, over and over, the words “bleep bloop, Obama can do no wrong.” His most zealous supporters seem to turn into Daleks at the tiniest provocation, capable of one thing and one thing only: exterminating dissent.
i’ve updated that photo with new text:
You can hear them too, can’t you?
