Key conservative voices have begun to charge in the day after Sen. Ted Kennedy’s death that Democrats are inappropriately politicizing the senator’s death, his memorial and his legacy.
OK, let’s stop there for a second. the same people who have always hated Ted Kennedy, the ones who like to shout “Mary Jo Kopechne” as if that was the sum of the man’s life, the people who have openly prayed for his death, now think they have the right to dictate to Kennedy’s supporters the guidelines for mourning?

the conservative media, as well as some operatives, has seized on the whiff of politicization of his passing, recalling the bitter charges and countercharges that followed Sen. Paul Wellstone’s (D-Minn.) memorial service in 2002.
That service, a sometimes boisterous rally that included calls to carry on Wellstone’s political legacy and some catcalls for Republican speakers, turned the memorial into a central campaign issue, and many observers think the still-disputed event helped elect a Republican to fill his seat.
The Wellstone “controversy” was a well-organized Republican hissy-fit. It’s what they do.
In fact, they became so good at the tactic that they now rely on it as their first choice to control the political dialogue when it becomes uncomfortable and put the Democrats on the defensive whenever they are winning the day. Perhaps the best example during the Bush years would be the completely cynical and over-the-top reaction to Senator Paul Wellstone’s memorial rally in 2002 in the last couple of weeks leading up to the election.
With the exception of the bizarre Jesse Ventura, those in attendance, including the Republicans, were non-plussed by the nature of the event at the time. It was not, as the chatterers insisted, a funeral, but rather more like an Irish wake for Wellstone supporters — a celebration of Wellstone’s life, which included, naturally, politics. (He died campaigning, after all.) But Vin Weber, one of the Republican party’s most sophisticated operatives, immediately saw the opportunity for a faux outrage fest that was more successful than even he could have ever dreamed.
By the time they were through, the Democrats were prostrating themselves at the feet of anyone who would listen, begging for forgiveness for something they didn’t do, just to stop the shrieking. The Republicans could barely keep the smirks off their faces as they sternly lectured the Democrats on how to properly honor the dead — the same Republicans who had relentlessly tortured poor Vince Foster’s family for years.
So again: SUCK. MY. FUCKING. DICK. Here’s more from the serial hypocrites and child rapists on the right:
“No government was a partner with God in Ted Kennedy’s death. To put his name on this current health-care bill would be to insult what he stood for,” Limbaugh said.
Another leading conservative media figure, Sean Hannity, recalled the Wellstone memorial.
“Remember Paul Wellstone’s death? You know, ‘Let’s do everything for Paul.’ And we’re now being implored to get behind Obamacare because it’s what Ted Kennedy would have wanted,” he said, according to the liberal media monitor Media Matters, which is in turn suggesting that conservatives have crossed the line with allegations of politicization.

Former Republican presidential candidate Gary Bauer, who now heads the socially conservative group American Values, echoed Limbaugh’s charge in an e-mail to supporters Wednesday.
“The first news most Americans heard this morning was the announcement that Sen. Ted Kennedy had passed away after his 15-month battle with brain cancer. The second thing most Americans heard was a shameless attempt by Big Media ‘talking heads’ and liberal politicians to exploit his death by suggesting that America should honor the senator by stopping the debate and passing ‘health care reform,’” he wrote. “No one who was against another Big Government power grab when Ted Kennedy was alive should now toss their principles out of the window and cave in just because he has passed away. In fact, the left and their media shills should be ashamed of themselves for exploiting his death in such a crass and cynical way.”

Nine members of Bauer’s staff have quit in the last month, including Charles Jarvis, Bauer’s campaign manager, and Tim McDonald, former chief of advance operations. Jarvis and McDonald have said publicly that they resigned in protest of Gary Bauer’s “inappropriate” behavior in travelling alone and spending time behind closed doors with a 26-year-old deputy campaign manager.
Jarvis says that he and others in the campaign warned Bauer several times “in the clearest possible terms” that he was creating “the appearance of impropriety” by spending “hours and hours and hours behind closed doors with a young single woman.” Neither Jarvis nor McDonald has directly claimed that sex occurred, though.
An unnamed source in the Bauer campaign said that Bauer has been traveling alone with this hot 26-year old blond (deputy campaign manager Melissa McClard) on a daily basis and the two have been so inseparable that it was like a “husband-wife relationship.”
