Public Option? HAHAHA, Says Nancy Pelosi. Are YOU Gonna Take THAT from HER?
Minor Threat, Screaming at a Wall
Via firdoglake, the political access sales firm known as the Washington Post reports that nancy pelosi is laughing at the progressive caucus about the health care sellout:
Sensing that the Blue Dogs had dug in for a prolonged fight, Pelosi and Emanuel gave in to most demands in order to get the legislation moving again. They essentially decided that it was better to pick a fight with their liberal flank, where Pelosi remains popular and where loyalty to Obama is strongest, particularly in the Congressional Black Caucus.
Despite threats from almost 60 progressive House Democrats — who outnumber the Blue Dogs — Pelosi defended the compromise, saying it was similar to one backed by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.). Pelosi predicted that the liberal wing would fall in line because the legislation is so important to them.
“Are you asking me, ‘Are the progressives going to take down universal, quality, affordable health care for all Americans?’ I don’t think so,” Pelosi told reporters Friday, breaking into laughter at the question.
Translation: “Bob Brady and Chaka Fattah are my bitches: I gave their balls to the Blue Dogs. I hear they play golf with them.”
Frankly I think Jane Hamsher’s commentary is spot on:
Nobody takes the progressive caucus seriously, and rightfully so. They do nothing but make idle threats that they don’t follow through on.
If Chaka Fattah and Bob Brady do not hear from YOU every day throughout August, they are going to settle for a pissy little pretend vote on single payer health care:
Legislation creating a single-payer system would be expected to lose, but would allow liberal members to record their support for the proposal. It will also be a tough vote for some Democrats who will be wary of upsetting the liberal base.
Oooooh, how’s THAT for a big important brave act for ordinary middle class and working Americans, a vote on a guaranteed loser to “record their support”. Ooooh, how toughminded you progressives are. Oooooh, the spine. Ooooh, I want to set you up in a boxing match against a toddler and bet against you.
This is NOTHING but a bunch of punks putting up a front: that’s the progressive caucus. You wonder how these guys ever won elective office to begin with, the way they keeping wimping out of a fight.
And it’s no mistake: these co-ops they’re suddenly proposing are nothing but a fraud, as even John Rockefeller can see (it was single payer, then it became a watered down public option, now it’s a useless co-op, next it’s business as usual and your dad dies of cancer because no one can pay the bill).
The only way we are going to get a public option is if we FORCE our legislators to do it, and even then it is a LONG shot. Fattah and Brady are home on vacation NOW. You can call Fattah locally at 215.387.6404 and Brady at 202-225-4731.
For that matter call the whole damn lot of progrressives and tell them to stop being letting the Blue Dogs be the Alpha Dogs.
It is an incredibly sad fact that our entire political system has become so thoroughly, hopelessly, corrupt that we can no longer accomplish anything big, or even accomplish anything good.
Wars and chemicals,
bombs and fake food
and everything’s entertainment,
even the way your own government jerks you around
like you’re some kinda schmuck who doesn’t deserve any better.
Well I say “Fuck that.”
Scroll back up for the contacts of blue dogs and progressives and let ‘em have it. Then, call your call your representative and your senator and let them know you demand a public option.
