Krugman Comes Out Swinging

Krugman:

what are the objections of the Blue Dogs?

Well, they talk a lot about fiscal responsibility, which basically boils down to worrying about the cost of those subsidies. And it’s tempting to stop right there, and cry foul. After all, where were those concerns about fiscal responsibility back in 2001, when most conservative Democrats voted enthusiastically for that year’s big Bush tax cut — a tax cut that added $1.35 trillion to the deficit?

They also voted for the war, and every supplemental that followed. They have also voted, en masse, for the bailout. And yes, the Blue Dogs voted, en masse, for the Bankruptcy Reform Bill of 2005.

So it’s not that the Blue Dogs are conservative: it’s that they are useful idiots for Big Business and the war machine. Blue Dogs love to see people die, and they like nothing better than to see someone get thrown out on the street while hte bank repos the family home.

“Oh Brendan, isn’t that harsh? Nobody wants that…”

I say, look at their votes. The Blue Dogs need to be brought to heel.
