Philadelphia Eagles: Secret Unwritten Deal to Not Pay Back City?

Lurie claims to have a “secret deal”: isn’t that conveeeeeeeenient!
THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES, mired in a legal battle with the city over an $8 million debt, now claim that former Mayor Street agreed to settle the dispute quietly for less than $1 million as part of the deal to build Lincoln Financial Field.
And quite a deal it was: one which was “never finalized”, in which “no specific amount was ever agreed upon”, one that “was not put into writing”.
So it’s a secret, unfinalized, unwritten deal for no specific amount. Riiiight. May I interest you in a suit of clothes made of fabric so fine, only the most cultured and refined gentlemen of the land can see it?
Leonard said the Eagles were in regular contact with Street’s staff, which repeatedly assured the team that the deal was solid. Nothing came of those assurances.
The team then waited until Nutter settled into office to resume its discussion about the deal, Leonard said.
“We don’t want to fight with the city of Philadelphia,” Leonard said. “We consider the city our partner and we want to be a good corporate citizen. We just want the city to live up to its word.”
That’s RICH: a multi-million dollar franchise that borrowed $8 million from the city and is trying to weasel out of paying its debts pointing the finger at Philly for not “liv[ing] up to its word”. Good God, why won’t they honor our unwritten secret deal for which we have no evidence other than the team owner’s word and a city lawyer who claims no amount was agreed to?
The Eagles, in my opinion and hopefully in the court’s opinion, have NOTHING. This is about as credible as MY claim that Donald Trump promised me 50% of his personal wealth, in a secret, unwritten, unfinalized deal. I can’t show you the documents or the signatures, but I swear by everything that is holy that it’s true.
The only thing worse than a deadbeat is a weasely deadbeat. I’ll believe Lurie and co when i see some evidence of this deal: until then, color me skeptical, at best.
