Police Brutality in City Hall

Email from harris Daniels:

On Thursday, March 19, 2009, police attacked members of the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement (InPDUM) in the gallery of the City Council during the City Council session where Mayor Nutter was announcing his 2010 budget. International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement members were holding signs protesting Mayor Nutter’s budget, which cuts essential services for the African population while spending more than one billion dollars a year for police and prisons attacking the black community. Subsequent to the police attack, InPDUM international organizer Diop Olugbala (aka Wali Rahman), and member Shabaka Mnombatha (aka Franklin Moses), were brutally arrested and are being charged with aggravated assault on police!

Watch the video: the police clearly attack first, at about the 3:05 mark, against protestors exercising their civil rights to petition their government. it starts with shoving, then the cop grabs a protestor by the neck, and the fists start flying.

I do not endorse everything the Uhuru Movement stands for, and in fact I am not affiliated with the group at all. However, there is no justifiable reason for the police to physically attack people for peaceably holding up signs, no matter how harshly those signs criticize the mayor.

Standing up to police brutality means exposing police brutality, so I am posting this video here.

The cops have been increasingly edgy lately. I’m not the only one that has noticed it, even my daughter mentioned how she doesn’t like their cocky attitudes. Are they being worked into a lather during their daily briefings? Is there some anticipation of conflict that we aren’t being told about? Seems like there is some impending crack-down on the horizon.

I’m not the sharpest pencil in the box, but sometimes the signs are there for all to see. If we pay close enough attention to normal everyday life, then we will be able to see and feel the subtle changes. Those subtle changes often are a reaction to an imbalance. I know, I’m preaching to the choir. At this point I’m going to shut the fuck up. Really.
