HOUSE DEMOCRATS: ALL DAY SUCKERS

Lollipop

All-day sucker

The Bags, Believer

You’re a sucker
Bought a load of crap
You’re a sucker
Flowing from the tap
You’re a sucker
Yeah you swallowed it whole
You’re a sucker
Ran it up the flagpole
Don’t wanna share my world with a bunch of fools

As of this writing, Bob Brady’s office has confirmed that, in acquiescence to GOP hissy-fits and at Obama’s behest, the Democrats have cut family planning funds for low-income families from the stimulus bill. This move was undertaken in order to get the GOP on board with the stimulus, even though the Democrats have enough votes to get it through on a party line vote.

Make no mistake: this funding would have indeed stimulated the economy (warning, pdf):

Our research shows that expanding Medicaid family planning coverage to women at higher levels of income has had a significant impact on reducing unplanned births. Increased use of contraception appears to explain the decline. We estimate that the cost of preventing an unwanted birth is around $6,800. Based on our reading of the evidence regarding the effectiveness of other interventions designed to reduce unwanted births, this seems like a relatively cost-effective policy intervention.
Beyond the cost-effectiveness of this policy, our results also raise the possibility that family planning waivers may have improved women’s outcomes more broadly. If women are better able to control their fertility, new life options may present themselves. For instance, educational attainment and labor market outcomes might improve for women who delay childbearing or have fewer children. Future research should explore this issue.

So now they’ve cut funding for family planning, so at least the GOP will be on board with the stimulus, right? WRONG:

House Republican Leader John A. Boehner and his No. 2, Whip Eric Cantor, told their rank-and-file members Tuesday morning during a closed-door meeting to oppose the bill when it comes to the floor Wednesday, according to an aide familiar with the discussion. Boehner told members that he’s voting against the stimulus, and Cantor told the assembled Republicans that there wasn’t any reason for them to support the measure, according to another person in the room. Cantor and his whip team are going to urge GOP members to oppose it.

Who could have predicted?? tel me, who could have predicted that the GOP wasn’t acting in good faith? WHO COULD HAVE POSSIBLY FORESEEN THAT COMING DOWN THE TRACK CHUGGING AND HOOTING LOUDER THAN A STEAM LOCOMOTIVE???

Again:

This is a lollipop

This is an all-day sucker

This is the house democratic leadership

And this is a low-income family wondering what the fuck they’ll do if Mom and Dad can’t afford her birth control pills anymore.

Way to go Democrats: once again, the Republicans proved you live up to your party icon, you jackasses.
