Deep Thought

ACLU Lays off 10% of Workforce:

Sources familiar with the ACLU’s situation say that the two major foundations were the JEHT and Picower Foundations, which were wiped out by Madoff. Another major ACLU donor, Peter Lewis, has also been pounded by the economic crisis. Lewis’ centrality to the funding of progressive organizations is hard to overstate. The name of the ACLU’s Washington office is “The Peter B Lewis Center for Civil Liberties.”

Just askin’: why has no one taken a shot at Bernie Madoff? It can’t be because he’s hard to find.

not that I’d endorse such an act. Just askin’.

I might lose my tenuous liberal credentials for this, but should I care that the ACLU cut staff?

Most of the actual ‘good works’ done by the ACLU are done by volunteers. It’s called pro-bono. Much of the other work- the matching lawyers with clients, the educational programs can be done without significant paid staff.

Like many organizations, it’s more concerned about its survival than the reason it was formed. In my opinion, they’re taking more cases to keep them in the press than actually protect our civil rights or clients.

And shooting Mr. Madoff- why? the damage has been done.

Yeah, i think you should care. and that’s because i disagree with your belief that the ACLU is “more concerned about its survival than the reason it was formed.” I’ve always found that the ACLU really does live its mission, as opposed to the useless hacks at NARAL, a truly useless organization.

as for shooting mr. madoff? retribution.
