Everybody Poops
Sorry for the extended absence, everyone. Sam is visiting and we’ve been busy. You know that book Everyone Poops? Well, if you’d been at my house for the past three days, you’d think the book should be titled Everybody Poops and Pukes and Has Agonizing Gas Pains and Has Diarrhea.
Sam took the hit first, complaining of stomach ache around 3:00 AM (does that count as Saturday night or Sunday morning?), followed by repeated bouts of vomiting that lasted until about 6:00 AM. we finally had to bring him into our room, where we set up a pallet and gave him a large bowl to barf in as needed. We had no choice: he’d already soiled three sets of bedding and his pajamas.
We figured Sam was sick from all the road food on Saturday, but when we went to my nephew’s birthday party Sunday afternoon, he puked a few more times. By about 1:00 PM, he was doing fine, thanks to the magic of kids’ PeptoBismol.
When we went to bed Sunday evening, everyone was fine, but I got an ominous email at work the next morning from my boss, who was out due to some kind of stomach problems:
I’ve got some nasty stomach bug (or food poisoning) that struck me late yesterday, and I dare not venture far from home. Feels like the flu, but can’t imagine it coming on so quickly. I trust this will pass before long.
I went to bed Monday evening feeling more than a little queasy. By 3:00 AM, I was up every ten minutes with diarrhea: this lasted until about 7:00 AM, when my intestines finally had nothing more to shit out. Meanwhile, Christina had been tossing and turning all night herself with gas pains that grew into vomiting by Tuesday morning. We were both forced to call into work: she spent most of the day in bed, while I entertained Sam with inside fun like puzzles and Lite Brite.
It’s Wednesday morning and i feel a lot better, except for the cough I’ve developed and a nasty headache. In another ten minutes, I’m heading down to the office kitchen to make myself some tea. Also, I’ve been downing chicken soup like there’s no tomorrow.

We are very familiar with the pallet thing. Sometimes the pallet, laid next to our bed, can be calming enough to slow the vomiting and diarrhea. We love the pallet, it’s a win-win for everyone.
I hope that nasty stuff dies off before it makes its way in my direction though. yuck!
