Olbermann Speaks for Me

I personally don’t give a shit about this issue, but the thing that Keith and many others fail to understand that its about gra$$roots democracy… A well organized grassroots money machine helped elect Barack Obama over Hillary and eventually McCain. It was just a different money machine, the Mormons et al, that got out and funded something they wholly believed in–opposition to Prop 8. Just think if some of the extra cash in the Barack campaign war chest had been allocated to the other side so many people wouldn’t be crying about sour milk!

That is some beautful concern trolling.

here, let me fix that for you: “its about gra$$roots democracy theocracy.”

That’s what you meant. Mormons, who didn’t even live in california, undermined the system to impose their religious beliefs on the wider population.

Ever been to Utah? I have: Mormons run the state government, and as a result there are laws selling full strength beer, there are no bars (just “private clubs”), and it’s exceedingly difficult to get hard liquor.

It’s the same thing with the gay marriage, and for that matter the polygamy. It’s about religiously-inspired social control, just like the moonies.

I like the last minute stretch to blame the Obama campaign! Nice touch!

Gra$$roots theocracy – nicely stated! I don’t necessarily disagree with your view, but you cannot wholly blame Mormons who don’t live in California. After all, there are over 750,000 Mormons actually living in California! …and they and their Roman Catholic brothers voted in droves on this issue. Democracy spoke, albeit much of it funded by the religious right….

I’m not blaming the Obama campaign directly, but I’m just sick of the Keith Doberman’s (sic) of the world telling me how wrong this defeat is after he spent two years pushing Obama down our throats with hardly mentioning how close the Prop 8 vote was going to be in California. I know several dedicated MSNBC watchers who each sent a few hundred dollars each to the Obama war chest and nary a nickel to defeat Prop 8. They spent time working the beat and phones for the well-financed machine his campaign was. Did they ever make phone calls to defeat Prop 8? Not! Fuck, Hillary’s PUMA effort was probably better funded!
(In the interest of full disclosure, animal rescue shelters are the only recipients of my personally donated hard cash to in the last two years. I find most charitable organizations are to faux high-society for me to ensure part of my money is not paying for fancy hors d’oeuvres I don’t get invited to eat, but that’s a topic for another time…)

The other side, namely the religious right, was better funded, better organized, and ultimately better managed the turnout of their voters for Prop 8. It is over and democracy spoke, so to those uttering the Prop 8 overthrow mentality: until you can get it on the ballot again stop your fucking whining!

Utah: Been there done that… In fact I went to a BYU football game and drank heavily in the parking lot knowing there would be no alcohol inside. What I was surprised to find inside besides a virtual sea of beautiful blonde coeds, was that you cannot get a coffee or a Coke–all caffeinated beverages are banned!

I too hate religious control. Just tell the religious zealots who knock on your door and leave their Towerwatch magazines that you had a blood transfusion last week and next week you are having a birthday party where a gay friend might show up and watch the whackos flinch as you hit three hot buttons with one utterance. Most religions exert some level of mind control with Scientology leading the pack. Uh… after all tomorrow is the 30th anniversary of Jonestown massacre, so let’s demote Hubbard’s cronies to second for a few days…

I can, and I do. I’d love to send the Mormons down to Jonestown.
