Proponents Of “Permanent Republican Majority” and Criminalized Dissent Decry One-Party Rule and Criminalized Dissent
Speaking of the horrors of one-party rule, here’s conservative David Frum:
One-party government, of course, will intensify those temptations. And as the federal government succumbs, officeholders will become more and more comfortable holding that stake. The current urgency to liquidate the government’s position will subside. The United States needs Republicans and conservatives to monitor the way Democrats wield this extraordinary and dangerous new power — and to pressure them to surrender it as rapidly as feasible.
Frum, of course is the author of What’s RIGHT: the New Conservative Majority, which lovingly details the right-wing’s pursuit of one-party rule, celebrated here by Grover Norquist:
The modern Democratic Party cannot survive the reelection of President George W. Bush and another four years of Republican control of both Congress and the White House.
No brag. Just fact…With the end of 40 years of Democratic gerrymandering, states in which a majority of the congressional popular vote goes to the GOP now award a majority of congressional seats to the GOP, too. Republican-led redistricting in Texas will add an additional five to seven Republican House seats over the next few cycles. Redistricting in Texas and throughout the country ensures that Republicans will continue to control the House through 2012. Over time, the Senate–thanks to those wonderful square states out west–will trend toward 60 Republicans as the 30 red states elect Republicans and the 20 blue states elect Democrats. The anomaly of four Democratic senators hailing from Republican North and South Dakota will come to an end, as will the Republican-held Senate seat in Rhode Island.
Hey, how’s that working out for you, motherfuckers?
Getting back to Frum, the party that criminalized dissent and celebrated intolerance, now fears… criminalized dissent and intolerance:
Second, the political culture of the Democratic Party has changed over the past decade. There’s a fierce new anger among many liberal Democrats, a more militant style and an angry intolerance of dissent and criticism. This is the culture of the left-wing blogosphere and MSNBC’s evening line-up — and soon, it will be the culture of important political institutions in Washington.
Unchecked, this angry new wing of the Democratic Party will seek to stifle opposition by changing the rules of the political game. Some will want to silence conservative talk radio by tightening regulation of the airwaves via the misleadingly named “fairness doctrine”; others may seek to police the activities of right-leaning think tanks by a stricter interpretation of what is tax-deductible and what is not.
Does David Frum REALLy want to talk about “the angry new wing” of the Democratic Party when John McCain’s supporters look like this:
Does Frum REALLY want to talk about criminalized dissent? Really?
It really sucks to be a republican and a conservative these days. You’re losing the election, you’re losing both of your wars, your base has been revealed as lunatic, mouth breathing know-nothings, and your dream of a Fourth Reich is nothing but smoldering ashes.
Sucks to be you guys, eh?
