“If the Women Don’t Find You Handsome, They Should At Least Find You Handy.”
This weekend we discovered the dryer had died so we made our maiden voyage to the Franklin Mills Mall to check out the Sears Scratch-and-Dent.
The Franklin Mills Mall is really ugly: it looks like it was designed by Lego, but on the cheap. Sears was no help either: the cheapest dryer we could find was over $300.00, and we have a mortgage to pay. We headed home and began scrolling through craigslist, when on a whim I did a google search for do-it-yourself dryer repair.
I figured out the broken part was either a fuse or the heating element, so I unplugged the appliance and removed the back. It was a surprisingly easy procedure.
I didn’t have an ohmmeter (one of those little devises that tests whether electricity is flowing through a given circuit or fuse), so I guessed it was the element that had died. Thankfully I was wrong: instead of a $65.00 element, the dryer needed a $27.00 fuse and thermostat set, which was easy to install.
So now we have a dryer again. Yay me!

Hamilton’s appliance repair at 52nd and Larchwood has an incredible stock of stuff and they’re really helpful. I’ve fixed both washer and dryer with their help, parts and an assist from the interweb.
