Dropout

Bristol’s Baby Daddy Drops Out of High School

Johnston has since dropped out of high school to become an apprentice in Alaska’s oil fields, and he and Bristol Palin will wed in December. “I’m still the same old boy,” Johnston said. “I’m just a workin’ man.”

Now THIS is a tragedy. Dropping out of high school is no way to provide for your kids. According to the Philadelphia Youth Network (warning, pdf), the effects of high school dropout are highly negative: over a lifetime, a student who graduates high school earns $260,000 more than a dropout and contributes $60,000 in federal and state taxes; another study shows that if the US could improve its dropout rate by just one percent would save the US up to $1.5 billion in costs associated with crime.

Is this the kind of message McPalin wants to give the kids of America? That it’s OK to get pregnant as a teenager and OK to drop out of school? That’s the message of hopelessness and despair I associate with the rap music the Republicans always seem to be criticizing…

This is pathetic – the families could help out for their senior year of high school with the baby – the Palins are financially secure enough to do that for the parents of their grandchild. But then I guess it wouldn’t quite give the poor teens the sense they were going straight to hell for sinning.

Remember this is the family (lack of) values party!!!
