John Conyers Does His Trick
UPDATED BELOW
Looks like John Conyers wants some attention: the longtime hero of the progressive movement, whose recent reputation has been dinged up with well-deserved charges of uselessness, is doing his trick again.

To consider: A resolution and report finding Karl Rove in contempt for failure to appear pursuant to subpoena and recommending to the House of Representatives that Mr. Rove becited for contempt of Congress
Yes it’s time to play “will John Conyers actually do anything about Karl Rove”! And as usual, all signs point to “No”
Here’s how it works: John Conyers makes a lot of noise about the rule of law, and gets very angry that Karl Rove ignores Congressional subpoenas. He holds a hearing and points out all the way Karl Rove is breaking the law.
Then the hearing adjourns, Conyers has a staffer draft a letter to Karl, Conyers signs it, and the letter goes in the mail, where Karl and his lawyers ignore it. Just like last time, and indeed every other time. Conyers, who has convinced himself that writing sternly worded letters is the same thign as exercising oversight, gets his picture in the paper and a few choice quotes. This, he hopes, makes his constituents in Michigan think he’s actually doing something. Meanwhile Karl Rove walks free, and John Conyers avoids another messy confrontation.
So move along, nothing to see here…
…adding, I am so sure that nothing more consequential than a sternly worded letter will come of Doddering John’s media stunt, that I will eat a hat if Karl is charged with contempt and arrested. It’s not going to happen. It’s just not.
…adding, looks like Judiciary voted for contempt. However, no hat-eating yet: next step is the full House and it’s “unclear” whether Pelosi will even bring it up.
I think anyone who’s been paying attention knows the answer to THAT one.
