Dear Phil Gramm

Apparently, you think the US has become a nation of whiners. That’s easy for you to say: you’re fabulously wealthy. But I’d like to give you an illustration of what it’s like to live here in what we call “the real world”. I don’t mind sharing this information on my income and expenses.

After all my taxes have been deducted, I make $937 every two weeks.
During my first pay period, I deduct $375 for my mortgage (my house was very cheap); about $50.00 for the electric; about $50.00 for Internets; about $40.00 for water; and $75.00 out of every check for my home equity loan. That leaves me with $347.00 for two weeks. Subtract $79.00 for my car insurance and we’re down to $268.00 to pay for food, gasoline (at $4.37 a gallon, it’s a little more than $52.00 to fill my tank). I’m paying about the same as my mortgage for my child support, and about $468 for my student loans: those come out of other paychecks. I haven’t touched on the $100.00 automatically debited from my account at the end of the month for a credit card debt I’m steadily chipping away at, or the $50.00 or so per month I owe to my other two credit cards.

Phil, I’ve held the same steady job since April 2005, and get a raise every year. But when my salary is compared to the costs of living that your wonderful Republican Party has visited upon Americans, like most people I’m barely keeping afloat and robbing Peter to pay Paul.

The fact is Phil, you couldn’t live on the money I make. So Phil, here’s a tip: go fuck yourself, you corrupt old bastard. Seriously: GO. FUCK. YOURSELF.

Singed,
brendan skwire
ps: tell Jeff I said hi.
