“Standing Up to the Left”
Now that Obama has utterly betrayed his base, I’m already seeing nonsense from the bobbleheads about how he’s “standing up to the left.” Let me offer an analogy.
My friend Ryan is a big man. He’s easily over 6 feet tall, and outweighs me by, well by a lot. The guy’s got arms like tree-trunks: if Ryan wanted to he could snap me in half like a twig, eat me for dinner, and have room for dessert. He’s not fat: he’s just burly.
His son Franklin on the other hand, is 6. He’s a skinny kid who barely comes up to my chest. I could pick the kiddo up with one hand if he’d stop wiggling.
The right-wing machine has radio stations, TV stations, book publishing companies, the backing of powerful corporations, and a working majority in Congress (when you ignore party lines and count fake the Democrats known as Blue Dogs). The left has.. Russ Feingold, bloggers, and MoveOn (who no one listens to anyway).
Obama’s “standing up to the left” is like me picking a fight with my buddy’s 6-year old, and then dancing around the ring like some kind of champ when I knock the kid down. In other words, it’s sheer cowardice masquerading as toughness.
