Call to Patrick Murphy’s Office on FISA

direct action, fascism, politics June 18th, 2008

Riiiiing….. riiiiiing.

“Hello, Congressman Patrick Murphy’s office.”

“Hi, this is Brendan Skwire. Listen, I gave some money to help Congressman Murphy get elected and I’ve been really happy with his leadership, especially on FISA. That’s why I’m calling.

“Look, I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Steny Hoyer has engineered some deal through which he plans to give away our Fourth Amendment rights to AT&T and Verizon, the companies that illegally tapped our phones for the Bush Administration. I know mr. Murphy’s stood against this before, but I also know that Mr. Hoyer has a lot of clout, and I just wanted to make sure Mr. Murphy knew he has my support if he stands up for our rights.

“But I also wanted to let you know that there’s a big campaign by a new grassroots group to target Steny Hoyer and anyone who helps pass this deal. these are the guy’s who did the Ron Paul money bomb, millions in 24 hours. But here’s the thing: Steny is trying to put the blame on the Blue Dogs, and the ads that are going to run will target ANYONE associated with this scheme. I know Rep. Murphy’s a member and I do NOT want to see him get hit with ads, because he’s stood up for our rights before and I know he doesn’t support this crap. I have no idea why Steny Hoyer is trying to put the blame on that coalition, and thought that Mr. Murphy would want to know he was being dragged into something that he might not want to be involved with. Murphy should vote no on this, distance himself and the rest of the Blue Dogs from this thing, because those ads are already running against Carney.”

“Thanks for your call, I’ll pass it along…”

I didn’t mean any of this phone call as a threat, and the whole conversation was friendly. I really DO support Patrick Murphy and think he is an excellent person to have in Congress.

What I hope to achieve in this call is to help chip away at any solidarity the Blue Dogs may have with Mr. Hoyer. I want Steny Hoyer and his capitulation scheme to be so radioactive, Chernobyl looks like a glow stick. More than that, I want Steny Hoyer to lose the support of the Party, so we can have a new Majority Leader who better reflects what Democrats stand for.

Help make that happen by clicking here.
