Roll Call: Inouye Headlining Stevens Fundraiser
Putting their friendship above party, Democratic Sen. Daniel Inouye
(Hawaii) will headline a fundraiser today for one of the Democrats’ top
targets this cycle, Republican Sen. Ted Stevens (Alaska)
See, when I talk about my outrage meter being pinned in the re, this is EXACTLY the kind of thing I mean.
Never mind that a Democrat is headlining a fundraiser for a Republican: that’s bad enough, especially considering how right-wing Stevens is.
Stevens is one of the most corrupt Republicans in the Senate, up to his eyeballs in investigations. He’s getting investigated for his April 2 fundraiser. He’s also on the hook for having oil lobbyists pay to renovate his house. Or the time Ted used federal money to bail out one of his aides.
The list goes on and on. And there’s brainiac Daniel Inouye, supposedly a Democrat, headlining a fundraiser for not only member of the opposition party, but one who appears to be a crook several times over. Why stop there? Why not host a fundraiser to defray funeral costs for Ken Lay’s family (if the guy’s even really dead), or maybe a fundraiser to defray Jack Abramoff’s legal costs? Since apparently it’s a big bipartisan family in Congress, maybe Inouye can help Larry Craig and Mark Foley with some of their legal bills! Who cares how it appears to normal people who, you know, obey the fucking law?
As I wrote yesterday,
by Friday, I can’t take the seething anymore. There is only so much hopelessness and despair, brought on by the stupidity of people with power that will never be held accountable for anything, that a man can take.
After asking me about my anger level, my shrink said that sometimes when a person’s not totally pre-occupied with their problems, we can get the deepest insights. I had mine today.
I don’t spend my weekends in the garden because of some back-to-the-earth sentimentality. I spend the weekends working the garden and ignoring the world because it allows me to avoid the source of most of my rage.
And today, Dan Inouye, by virtue of being a fucking idiot, has added to my hate-ache. That’s my new word for headaches caused by an inability to process an outrage overload. Common symptoms also include elevated blood pressure, muttering to oneself, and extended rants.
On a positive note, and making a total left turn from this ugly subject, the past three days of rain have been awesome for the backyard: the tomatoes have grown by leaps and bounds, the broccoli is visibly happy, the Nugget hops are now climbing up the line to the trellis, and the Cascade hops have grown an additional 1/2 inch.
See how happy that makes me? It’s like Daniel Inouye never existed.

And I thought corruption only existed in the land of the Bud-I. On a side note off topic… Rumors were circulating thru the local caretaker clique here on the island that Ken Lay was hiding out at the Grey Craig not too long before his death. No joke. We were doing work at a mansion on Bellevue where we know the caretaker well. He heard thru his source, the caretaker of the Gray Craig, that Lay had been there for a while. I’m sure the CIA or the Secret Service came and “fetched him” for questioning only to have him die mysteriously of a natural condition. Now, said estate is owned by one Mr. Nicolas Cage. And no, his child doesn’t go to public school. Nor has he been spotted anywhere about town spending in local establishments.
