Hannity, 2/13/08

So Sean Hannity was going on about Barack Obama’s lack of accomplishments, a claim I am sure isn’t true but who cares: it’s not like right-wing talk radio is a repository of honesty and truthfulness. The big mouth invited his listeners to call in and comment.

Within a few minutes a young woman was on the phone, talking about how Obama is a great orator (she didn’t pronounce it “oratater” like the previous caller) but little else.

“Y’know Sean, a lot of guys are great orators. Hitler was a great orator too, y’know, and then Reagan, and…”

“What a minute, what did you say? My headphones have a bit of echo.”

HITLER. In his day, Hitler was a great orator…”

“Well yes, but…” Hannity began, already backing away.

“And you know what else Sean, a lot of the programs Obama’s proposing are just like Hitler’s too,” the woman continued. It was obvious she was off her rocker, and Sean began getting defensive.

“Now wait a minute, wait a minute.” It was clearly too much for him to take. “You’re not going to get far going down that road. You keep talking like that and you make conservatives seem unreasonable and crazy. Obama is NOT Hitler. He’s not propos–”

“Yes he IS, a lot of the programs he supports are just like Hitler’s!” the woman continued, unfazed.

“No, he’s NOT,” Hannity argued. “He’s NOT like Hitler. Obama is NOT Hitler! He’s not– he’s not even close!” It was hilarious: Hannity had just spent the past 20 minutes of my ride home blathering on and on about how lame Obama is, and within seconds he was forced to kinda-sorta defend the guy from charges of Nazism.

That’s when I pulled up in front of my house and had to get out of the car, howling with luaghter as I crossed the street. Poor Sean Hannity: the guy’s spent the past decade or two cultivating an audience of total nutballs and fringe lunatics, and the chickens have come home to roost.

“Obama is like Hitler.” Good grief.

And all of it, courtesy of one of the biggest cheerleaders for a group of morons who consistently and continually mis-identify both socialism and fascism as labels for the American left, all while trying to tie it into Naziism and Hitler.

    Right?

This is priceless. He reaped what he has sown, and now he has to backpedal for it. You deserve props for showing such a sensitive, sympathetic interpretation of a douchebag that really doesn’t even deserve it. Maybe some day Sean Hannity will take the hard look at himself that callers like this scream for him to do.
