Recession

Everybody’s writing about the recession.

So I’ll add my two cents. What worries me the prospect of unemployment, because it’s harder to find work in a recession. As for the rest? As Christina mentioned last night “we don’t have much in the way of investments to lose and you chose a really cheap house” (my retirement savings are laughable, less than $5,000, and my house cost the princely sum of $35,000). Not only that I have a fixed rate on my mortgage and a fixed rate on the home equity loan I took out when Sam was born (and I didn’t take out a very big one either).

I worry for my parents, who have their retirement wrapped up in some kind of investment no doubt (I will have to ask them about it this afternoon), but if worst came to worst they could move in here (I can’t believe I’m saying that).

If my job disappears, I have manual labor skills and a trade, cooking, I could always return to.
So while I’m poor and miserable, at least I get the unique pleasure of watching the rich lose their shit.
