Ron Paul Makes Markos Nervous
Dear Markos:
If you’re so un-worried about Paul, why have you written two front-page posts going after him? I thought this blog was dedicated to the Democratic Party, why so much attention to a Republican fringe candidate?
The fact is, like him or not, Paul says things that NONE of the democrats will say. [I'm not voting for him, so please none of the purity troll "duh dis is uh democwatic bwog" crap from commentors.]
You’re NOT going to see any of the Democratic candidates call for an end to the drug war (yeah, richardson wants to end it, but he’s not winning anything). Ron Paul does though, and unapologetically.
None of the democrats will promise to pull out of iraq, not even edwards. All of them want to expand the size of military. The presumed front runner signed onto war in Iran with Kyl-Lieberman and likes to rattle her sabre. Edwards would bomb Iran. So would Obama.
Again, I’m not a Paul supporter (I like edwards), but this phoney baloney “he’s a bigot” shit is ludicrous and about as worthy of my time as “John Edwards Got a Haircut”.
The fact is that Paul COULD be a Perot-spoiler, and nobody’s sure whose party he’d spoil. The Democrats attracted a lot of independents in 2006, based on their promises to end the war, to end the domestic spying, and to restore our constitutional form of government. They haven’t done that. AT. ALL.
Those independents aren’t going to run back to McCain the panderer who wants to stay in Iraq or Huckabee the fundie who wants to stay in Iraq. Giuliani, from everything I’ve seen, is toast.
But they might vote for Paul, just as a protest. And that will take votes away from Democrats AND Republicans.
Attack Paul all you want, but be honest about it. It’s not because you think he’s a racist (nor is he the only person guilty of prejudice), but because he’s a threat the same way Perot and Nader were threats.
Calling it as I see it.
