Worth an Editorial??

babies, calling bullshit, media December 20th, 2007

I’m with atriso: teenagers have sex and sometimes pregnancy ensues. Lay off Jamie Spears. She’s a 16 year old girl for chrissakes.

Here’s an open secret for the scolds at the Stinkqy, most of who I have to assume also had sex long before they were 18 or 21: teenagers have sex. I started getting laid when I was 14, as did many of my friends.

When my parents found out I was having sex, they sat me down and gave me a box of condoms. They explained how to use them, and why. “There is only one thing worse than getting a venereal disease,” my mom told me, “and that is getting someone pregnant. Use these.”

She continued, “And if you’re going to have sex, please do that in YOUR room, with the door shut. Your father and I don’t want to have to come pick you up at the police station because you got caught with your pants around your ankles in a car.”

You would figure that with a skyrocketing murder rate, a new mayor, the still uncertain future of transit funding, an indicted state senator facing a grassroots progressive challenger, a corrupt parking authority, and lord knows how many other issues this city faces, the editors would have bigger things to worry about than whether a wealthy teen star got knocked up and the implications for America.

You would figure that, but you would be wrong about panty-sniffers like Brian Tierney.

there’s two things at play here…this particular family, and some puritanical obsession about sex as some dirty thing (that almost everybody does anyway)

The family is a train wreck. It’s obvious that Britney at 24 or 25 is no role model for parenting; hell, KFed – who was a laughing stock – comes out looking like an example of caring, compassion and restraint. Knowing what we know about the family, I can’t imagine this latest news being a positive event. (although, I suspect that having the baby at 16 or 17 will mean that Ms. Spears will be much more likely to get some real help from care givers, nannies, etc, who will be decent models of good parenting skills) This kid just signed up for a committment thats longer than she’s been alive.

As for the dirty sex thing…that’s a crock. Kids have sex, unmarried adults have sex, Rush has sex; who cares? As long as you’re prepared for the consequences, what does it matter? Of course, that leads back to point one: can THESE folks handle it? can they do a good job raising this baby?

I would be willing to bet that 16 year oldf Jamie is a better mom than her crazy sister.
    that’s just me…
