Drinking Liberally 10/30: Dems at Drexel

Philadelphia, alcohol, politics October 30th, 2007

,a href=”http://www.drinkingliberally.org”>Drinking Liberally! Tuesday evening at the Tangier, 18th and Lombard Streets, in Philadelphia, starting at 6:00 PM until we get done. Drink specials and free wings for early birds.

The Democrat and Democratic candidates for President will be debating tonight at Drexel University, and with any luck the guys at the Tangier will let us watch on the tube.

Personally, I’m not all that interested in campaign promises and debates, as it’s been my experience that pretty words and arguments don’t always add up to real actions, especially when it comes to national politics.

After all, didn’t most of the Democrats spend 2006 promising to end the war, rein in the president, impose oversight, end the war, stop the wiretapping, and end the war? What did we get in 2007? Blank checks for more war, unenforced subpoenas, the refusal to consider impeachment, and stooping so low as to sell out our Fourth Amendment rights and give the telecoms immunity for their participation in a federal crime. Oh, and my habeas corpus is still missing. But now I’m supposed to be interested in more self-serving promises! Pour me a drink. Make it eleven, neat.

Personally, I’m more interested in the race for PA State Senate between Democrats Vince Fumo and Anne Dicker, which has taken on new importance to Philadelphians as more details of Fumo’s tax break on his mansion filter out: it’s a sordid story of friends and cronies on the Board of Revision of Taxes. It’s good to have friends, isn’t it.

Anne’s a Drinking Liberal herself, and while I can’t endorse anyone (at least not while I’m posting on behalf of DL), here’s her website.
And for fairness’ sake, Fumo’s as well.
They are very different websites.
See you all tonight!
