Drinking Liberally, October 2
Drinking Liberally gets together this Tuesday, October 2, at the Tangier bar, corner of 18th and Lombard Streets at 6:00 PM! Drink specials and free wings for early birds!
Sometimes, you need to take a break from ugly politics and crass calculation, so this week’s DL bulletin will be fairly devoid of rhetoric and bile. Let’s just say I’m tired of watching the Democrat[ic] Party behave like cowards, and I’m sure not eager to support people who take my money and then take official action, no matter how symbolic, against a political opponent. Not even an opponent but a massive chunk of their own base.
Instead, here’s something positive. My employer, Lutheran Settlement House, is holding its first Walk Against Domestic Violence, taking place on Saturday October 13, in Chestnut Hill. The walk is two miles starting at Fountain Plaza, 8705 Germantown Ave, and follows a 10:00 AM press conference with State Senator Leanna Washington. The walk is free but donations are encouraged. To register or to reserve a T-Shirt, please call Suzette Belz at 215-426-8610 x 208 or sbelz@lutheransettlement.org. More information here.
Funds raised at this event will go to Lutheran Settlement House’s Bilingual Domestic Violence Program, which provides free-of-charge counseling, relocation, court accompaniment, legal advocacy, and medical advocacy to victims of domestic violence. And if you blog, please spread the word: there’s no excuse for domestic violence. None.
Hope to see you there!
