How to Tick Me Off

calling bullshit, parenting September 17th, 2007

When I pointed out to my ex last night that this year I had my son for less than 70 days the entire year, including the return trip, she told me “You have him for 1/5 of the year.”

Playing with numbers like that really makes me angry. She’s right: I have him for 1/5 of the year, barely. She has him the other 4/5ths of the year, also known as 80% of the year, and somehow I’m supposed to see this as a fair deal. I’m especially expected to see this as a fair deal when, after dismissing the 80% of the time I don’t have him as no big deal, she’s voiced her objection to me having him for the entire summer.

Because you know, God forbid she should suffer the way I do. God forbid. That would be unfair, and totally different from stringing someone along for two years with promises of moving in and being a family, and then abruptly breaking those promises.
