According to the NYT editorial board, the Senate has an opportunity to restore habeas corpus rights this week:
The bill that’s up for consideration is S. 185, and guess who STILL hasn’t signed onto this bill? Nope, it’s not Arlen Specter: he’s actually one of the bill’s authors.
Surprise! It’s Pennsylvania’s own Bob Casey and our Majority Leader, Harry Reid.
Maybe you’d like to let them know that you want them to stand up for your civil rights: isn’t that why we voted them into office to begin with?

I sincerely hope you’ll take a moment today to give these two Senators a call: habeas corpus, the right to challenge your arrest in court, is the core of our constitution and our nation. We fought a war with England over this issue. Without habeas corpus, we might as well be North Korea or Saudi Arabia. We shouldn’t let someone like George W. Bush get away with robbing us of our rights.
