Tell Me Another One, Annie…
Anne Flaherty for the AP, claims “GOP war support on shaky ground”.
Besides the fact that this is a load of crap, with GOP leaders happy to say anything about Iraq but always voting in lockstep with the Pweznit, Anne’s bias is showing:
Republican support for the Iraq war remained on shaky ground in Congress but wasn’t lost after a four-star general recommended keeping some 130,000 U.S. troops in the country through next summer.
With Gen. David Petraeus scheduled to testify Tuesday before Senate committees heavy with 2008 presidential candidates, many rank-and-file Republicans said they still were uneasy about the lack of political progress in Iraq. But they also remained reluctant to embrace legislation ordering troops home by next spring, increasing the likelihood that Democrats will have to soften their approach if they want to pass an anti-war proposal.
[snip]
Other Democrats and several Republicans say there is plenty of room for compromise. Congressional aides say bipartisan proposals are in the works and that Reid has reached out to several GOP senators to discuss potential common ground. However, a major hurdle remaining are politically influential organizations like MoveOn.org who say Democrats shouldn’t water down the debate with more moderate legislation.
Anne conveniently ignores the fact that MoveOn isn’t just a “politically influential organization”: it’s made up of activist Democrats, party members and rank and file voters who want our party to do what it promised to do: END THE WAR.
What is “more moderate legislation” other than that which prolongs our failed adventure in Iraq? What is “increasing the likelihood that Democrats will have to soften their approach” other than prolonging the unnecessary war in Iraq?
There is only one way to end the war in Iraq, and that is to END THE WAR IN IRAQ. I am sick and tired of bullshit artists like Anne Flaherty kicking the ball down the road another 6 months just to avoid admitting failure so they can dump the mess in whatever Democratic patsy takes the White House in 2008.
Sick and tired of it.

“Democrats will have to soften their approach.”
Jesus H. Christ…the mind boggles. So it’s our “hard” approach that’s causing the problem? Our “hard” approach is prolonging the occupation of Iraq? Our “hard” approach is to blame for the trashing of our constitution? Jesus H. Christ…this just makes me want to give up.
