A Former Republican Realizes What the Democratic Leadership Does Not.
Via FDL, here’s Chris Koster, newly minted Democrat and as of August 1, former head of the Missouri Republican Caucus, on why he left the GOP:
Their far-right crusade has infected everything, from the life-saving research itself, to economic development in our state, to the sale of the MOHELA assets, to the larger debate over abortion, to the nomination of curators and high governmental appointees, to the reform of our State’s Medicaid system.
I cannot in good conscience remain in Republican ranks and pretend that attempting to modulate extremist priorities is enough. Faced with such stakes, there is no compromising left to be done. There is no time to waste hoping that a moderate wing of the Republican Party will emerge to tame these excesses.
Are you listening Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Ben Nelson, Carl Levin, and Bobby Casey? There is NO COMPROMISING LEFT TO BE DONE.
This former Republican knows it, and acted upon it. Why can’t you see the same thing? There is no compromising with people who believe, and hope, as Cheney’s Cheney David Addington does, that “We’re one bomb away from getting rid of that obnoxious [FISA] court”. There is no compromising with people who want to replace a guaranteed income for seniors, no matter how small, with the roulette wheel of the stock market (I lost money on my investments this quarter, by the way, as did everyone else). There is no compromising with people who lie to gin up a war for the purpose of consolidating and centralizing political power and and privilege, with the ultimate goal of stripping ordinary Americans of not only the meager crumbs dropped from the table of the rich and the powerful, but of the very rights that make us a free people.
Why is it you don’t see this?
