“Hello, Arlen Specter’s office.”
“Hi, my name’s Brendan Skwire, I’m a constituent calling from Philadelphia.
“I’ve been reading in the news that there’s a group out there called “Freedom’s Watch” that’s running ads targeting wayward Republicans who aren’t as supportive of the President’s war strategy. From what I understand, Arlen Specter is getting targeted.
“Personally, I think Senator Specter should stand up for the President’s strategy. The surge is working VERY well and the Iraqi government gets better every day. All we really need is 6 more months, maybe 12 or 24, for the strategy to work. I’d like to see Arlen Specter stand tall with the president. It would be best if he put out an ad saying that the Freedom Watch is wrong, that he stands with the President, and that he believes the surge is working. He should counter it very quickly, because Specter doesn’t want to look soft on the war.
Please tell Senator Specter that I want to see him fight back against these guys and show all Pennsylvanians that Arlen Specter and George Bush stand together in the war on terror, and that he supports the strategy 100%.”
“Thank you so much for your support, Sir,” the toady said. “I’ll make sure he gets your message.”
Perhaps instead of my usual firebreathing calls, I should pretend to be a supporter from now on, and press for Mr. Specter to make the worst possible moves.
