In Which I Call Senator Specter’s Office

“Good morning, Arlen Specter’s office..”

“Hi, my name’s Brendan Skwire, and I’m a constituent calling from Philadelphia.

“Normally, I call with criticisms of Senator Specter, but not today: I’m calling to ask the Senator to support President Bush. I read that the President wants to cut tens of thousands of children from the State Children’s Insurance program, and I was calling to tell Senator Specter to support this measure. I think it’s a real winner, and good for Pennsylvania and the country.”

“You… you do?”

“Absolutely. I most certainly do. If there’s one thing Pennsylvania doesn’t have enough of, especially here in Philadelphia, it’s poor children. We don’t have enough. The problem is, these kids are a drag on society. They don’t work. They don’t contribute.

“The fact is, these poor people are making life more difficult for the rest of us, and the sooner their kids get sick and die, the better off the rest of us will be since we won’t have to support them anymore. By all means, cut SCHIP, and do it now! If the little bastards want health insurance, let them work for it like I do! Enough of these freeloaders and their free health care. Tell Senator Specter I support cutting the children’s health insurance program, and I hope he does too. It’ll be a real feather in his cap.”
