Sunday Photos
I have a large batch of photos taken during Sam’s last visit that I finally have a chance to post, including a few updates from the chaotic vegetable garden in my backyard and the long-delayed “Sam Goes fishing” series. There may be a couple of repeats in here, so bear with me. As always, if my sidebars block the photos, as they sometimes do depending on your resolution, click the photo itself to see it in a new window.
First, some leftovers from OATS.
Elmo’s closet is full of balls, and apparently so is my blog.
I had less luck than Charlie Brown getting this kite airborne.
Sam didn’t have much luck either.
Sam’s mom sometimes drops by the blog, and I’ve been making a point of letting her know when new photos go up (I could say something snotty here about how many pictures I get from Canada). Some of these shots are less than optimal (here you can barely make out my features), but it gives Sam pictures of us together, and that’s pretty important for him.
When I lived in Western Massachusetts, I used to bike up to the Buddhist Peace Pagoda in Leverett. Visitors had to park their vehicles at the bottom of an enormous hill and walk up to the pagoda: believers would stack up rocks just like this on the side of the path as tiny shrines to the Buddha.
Some context for the humor challenged…
Speaking of Buddha, it’s hilarious that Sam fell asleep in the lotus position on the way home, including the hand posture!
And that about does it for OATS, a festival I cannot recommend highly enough.
After the festival, we spent a day or so at my place before heading to my parents’ house by the shore. Pardon the mess.
We’ve been gardening lately, and the effort is finally bearing fruit. And vegetables!
This sunflower is growing along the back fence….
These sunflowers are growing in front of my deck. The herb garden has been overtaken by weeds…
… and the weeds are going for the deck!
The tomatoes are coming along nicely.
It’s a little too early to tell with the limas.
After dropping by my house, we spent the rest of the weekend at my parents’ place. They don’t get a chance to see Sam all that much either, so everyone has a great time when he visits. The best part about visiting my parents is the chance to go out on my dad’s boat to fish, swim, or just enjoy the ocean breezes. This year, Sam was old enough to do some fishing of his own. He’s still a little young and doesn’t quite grasp the concept of how fishing works. We’d bait his hook with a minnow and cast it in for him. The minute the line hit the water, Sam would shout “I think I got a fish!” “No,” we’d say, “Just wait til you feel a bite.” We’d reel it in, and he’d get all excited by the minnow at the end of the line, imagining he’d caught it himself.
Good times, great oldies!
So anyway, back to my parents’ place.
yes, I have a beer gut. I worked hard on this thing so stop laughing.
Sam loves to help in the kitchen…
… so it was only natural that he helped my dad make mojitos. Note to DYS: we didn’t let him drink them or handle any alcohol.
Sam comes down again at the end of August. I’m sure I’ll have several more photographs by that time.
Thanks to the lovely Christina for 99% of the bluegrass festival photographs!
