Christianity

christianity

Every once in awhile I peruse a religious blog, and it’s always a trip to see the people who believe in one magical, invisible superbeing take potshots at another group of people who believe in a different magical, invisible superbeing, or even better people who believe in the same magical, invisible superbeing, but express their belief in different ways. One guy I know jumped all over the Unitarians, calling them “confused”: this from someone who claims to take the Bible literally, but only adheres to the rules he finds convenient.

They’re all out to lunch in my opinion, but hey if you want to believe in a magical, invisible superbeing, that’s your business. And that’s where the problem comes in: with the exception of the Jews, who require you to be born into the religion, the other two major Abrahamic sects (Islam and Christianity) are intent on bludgeoning the rest of us with their mishegas.

So this is for all of them.

they do let you convert to judaism, brendan. my mother herself did it, and i don’t even think orthodox don’t consider that legit, but i’m not sure about that. i’m not aware of any sects that are equivalent to the evangelical lunacy the xtiams have though. AND THANK GAWD!

yes you can convert to Judaism, but it;s not like the other two (especially Christianity) which go out and proselytyze to get new members for their respective cults. The Jews have a small sect of Lubavitchers, who are all about evangelicizing, but that’s the minority. With the christians, it’s part and parcel of the whole thing: spreading the good news.

I don’t know how aggressive the muslims are: plenty of christians I know seem to think the Muslims are going to impose islam on us all at the point of a sword (kind of like the way we’re imposing “democracy” on Iraq, eh?), but honestly, I have never had a muslim invite me to mosque. The Christians on the other hand… all the time with the “if you’d only just believe in Him.” nag nag nag.
