Love Letters to a Criminal

Thivck as thieves these guys are: The Smoking Gun has the collection of letters in support of Scotter Libby, convicted criminal.

Henry Kissinger, who presided over the expansion of Viet Nam, including the Cambodia bombings, as well as Pinochet’s coup in Chile, and who escaped France a few years back in the dead of night in evasion of war crimes charges writes a letter: quite a character reference there.

Paul Wolfowitz, discredited architect of the Iraq War, and who most recently resigned in disgrace from the World Bank after conflict of interest charges because “he had helped arrange a pay raise for his companion at the time of her transfer from the bank to the State Department, where she remained on the bank payroll”: that’s a great reference right there (oh and do read the whole thing: the part about the “malicious gossip” is priceless). Don Rumsfeld writes in support: I wonder if he signed his letter in blood drained from an Iraqi child? Crazy John Bolton writes, as does Cheney staffer (and doppelganger for the witch from “Snow White”) Mary Matalin and her husband Clinton family friend and strategist James Carville (a man who has FAR outlasted his usefulness): this one’s also good:

One of my many endearing and enduring memories of Scooter is his universal love of families… I have seen what this trial has done to my own kids, just their reading about it. I cannot imagine the toll on Scotter and harriet’s young ones.

Gee Mary, ever think of the toll on Valerie Plame’s young ones, when their mom lost her job and it turned out the family might be targeted by the very people she spied on? There’s a word for people like Mary Matalin, and her hubby: “cunt”.

And there’s Peter “No Gays in the Military” Pace, with a brief paen to Scooter the felon. Richard “Jabbba the Hutt” Perle, a man who has never made a mistake outside of being born, is on the list: really, is it a good idea to have someone who calls himself “the Prince of Darkness” write you a letter of reference? Why not get Manson to write one too?

Doug Feith! “The fucking stupidest guy on the face of the earth,” writes a letter. Jesus, it’s like Madam Tussaud’s Chamber of Horrors here. I can’t go on…

UPDATE!! LIbby gets thirty months!

This am on the Today show the discussion was about when, not if Scooter would be pardoned. Not a question about whether it was fair or prudent or right (except in the political sense of helping or harming the republican party). Just an assumed fait accompli.

As you would say, Brendan, I fucking hate these guys.
