You GOTTA be Kidding Me, Timmeh

In the Washington Post’s “On Faith” supplement, Dick Cheney’s personal enabler Tim Russert has the nerve to ask “Am I Doing God’s Work”. It is one of the the most meaningless, self-centered, self-deluded things I have ever read. It is about the furthest thing from “spiritual”.

I was ten years old when I heard those words. They still resonate with me nearly a half century later. Am I doing God’s work? Is being a journalist my vocation? How does my faith influence my judgment as a reporter? Should it? Are the demands of my chosen profession leaving enough time for my responsibilities as a son, brother, husband, father and friend?

You let Dick Cheney come on your show and spout lies unchallenged. You were implicated, and testified to your role, in the outing of Valerie Plame. You are widely recognized as one of the worst hacks in punditry, and you’re wondering if you’re doing God’s work?

Emphatically, NO, Timmeh. You are NOT doing God’s work.

Your efforts on behalf of the anti-Christ, however, are as manifest as they are multiple.

One particular day provided some clarity. September 11, 2001. I don’t think the English language has yet found the words to describe the pain and anguish we felt that day. And yet we learned much about each other. The bravery of the first responders who went up the stairs of burning buildings. The heroic selfless souls on United flight #93. The patience of tens of thousands of drivers who left the devastated areas in an orderly way.

I have not honked my car horn since September 11 as a gesture of respect to all of them.

So let me get this straight: you’ve helped as much as anyone else to get the war in Iraq rolling, you’ve played the shill for on eof the most dishonest and disgraceful administrations in the history of the US, and you think holding off on honking your horn is some kind of tribute to the heroes of 9/11? DUDE: HOW ABOUT “TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT IRAQ”? DON’T YOU THINK THAT MIGHT BE A LITTLE MORE SUITABLE???

“Am I doing God’s work?” You fucking sap, your head is as enormous as it is empty.
