Thanks Nancy. You and NARAL Sure Did a Lot
Court Backs Ban on Abortion Procedure
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court upheld the nationwide ban on a controversial abortion procedure Wednesday, handing abortion opponents the long-awaited victory they expected from a more conservative bench.
The 5-4 ruling said the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act that Congress passed and President Bush signed into law in 2003 does not violate a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion.
[snip]
The decision pitted the court’s conservatives against its liberals, with President Bush’s two appointees, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito, siding with the majority.
When Nancy Keenan and NARAL had the chance to stop the confirmations of Samuel Alito and John Roberts they did nothing. Absolutely nothing.

The outcome is likely to spur efforts at the state level to place more restrictions on abortions.
Thanks Nancy, you fucking jerk.

We can believe that our long national nightmare will end on 1-21-09, but today is another cold slap that reminds us that this maladministration’s legacy of stink will remain for a long, long time.
I take exception to this entire fight. Not enough people stood up and said that the gruesome blood fest fantasized about by so many fundamentalist freaks and named by them as ‘partial birth abortion’ doesn’t even exist.
And that no woman gets a late term abortion because her pedicure appointment got cancelled and she has time.

Jess, i hate these people with the passion of a thousand white hot burning suns.
I pray for cancer for all of them. Pancreatic, the kind that kills.

I’m going to pop off here.
NARAL (as well as many other advocacy businesses I used to support) don’t benefit when the stuff they advocate for is safe. They benefit when there is peril. If they won, they would be out of jobs. They get paid to fight and posture, not win.
The recent ruling (and the encouragement this will be to the pro-life side) is going to be a great fundraiser tactic. This keeps them relevant, wealthy and in power.
