(Charged) GBH

punk rock, youtube April 9th, 2007

(Charged) GBH marked the first time my parents let me go to Providence by myself to see a hardcore show. GBH played at the original Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel, the joint with the mural of Buddy Holly and Stevie Ray Vaughn on the outside. Tim knows the original address. It was a great show. I ended up climbing one of the support poles, hanging from the ceiling by the plumbing before dropping down into the pit below. This was in the days before moshing: none of the songs had slow parts, and we all ran around in a circle, pushing, shoving, and flailing our arms like windmills. This was in the days when people pulled you back up if you fell down in the pit, when girls could enter the pit without having to worry about getting raped (at least in RI, and at least in our scene). It was on this tour from 1986 actually (can’t embed the video).

Monkey boy! I don’t know about you but I’m lucky to still be alive after some of the shit I pulled behind my parents backs. You’re right though, most of the stuff we thought was so wild is quite benign compared to the things they do today.
