D’OH

MoveOn’s bulletin was poorly written and led me to believe there was a town hall meeting with Senator Specter this evening. After going to the Friends Center, I learned that wasn’t the case.

I DID however meet the folks from PA Action, who were organizing against the odious Snarlin’ Arlen.

I apologize for the error.

And the folks from PA Action enjoyed meeting you, Brendan (or, more accurately, enjoyed meeting you somewhere other than at the bar at Dahlak, where I once lived in a 3rd storey apt. Not that there’s anything wrong with Dahlak.)

I know you intended to follow up at some point, but I wanted to pass some info along to you regarding a protest at Specter’s office on Thursday, April 12th — the 4th anniversary of the initial Congressional founding for the war in Iraq. Keep in touch — we’ve got plenty more in store for Specter and other double-talking, war-mongering, ass-kissing, freedom-hating, bribe-taking (sorry, campaign contribution-taking — the legal form of bribery) politicians. Maybe you can join us tomorrow and wear the Arlen Specter mask.

    Peace,
    Jeff

    P.S. Love the site!

FOUR YEARS AGO THIS THURSDAY . . .

. . . Congress approved President Bush’s request for $79 Billion for the war in Iraq.

    TWO WEEKS AGO . . .

. . . after spending $400 Billion on the Iraq war, with tremendous loss of life, with no end in sight, Sen. Specter voted against a call to end the war, instead supporting endless war and Bush’s failed Iraq policies.

    PROTEST!
    AT SEN. SPECTER’S PHILADELPHIA OFFICE
    THURSDAY, APRIL 12TH
    12 NOON – 1:00 P.M.
FEDERAL BUILDING, 6th & Arch Streets, Philadelphia

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -

    * WEATHER: Rain is in the forecast, however, there is a large area that is completely sheltered by an overhang. The area can easily accommodate 60+ people and will be entirely free from rain. Last Wednesday, when we had a similar protest scheduled outside Specter’s office and encountered a downpour, both the Inquirer and Fox 29 had photo/videographers there, so it is highly likely that there will be media present regardless of the weather.

    * LATE BREAKING WORD: The protest has generated interest at the Washington Post, which MIGHT be sending a reporter to cover the event. A strong crowd will help to send the message to Sen. Specter through the news media that Pennsylvanians are holding him accountable for his support for endless war & President Bush (and his disastrous Iraq policies). A crowd-participation street theater action is also planned to visually portray what our senator has down — 2 courageous volunteers with strong stomachs are needed to wear photo-masks of Bush & Specter (yikes) so email if you are able and willing to help out in this way.

    * BACKGROUND INFO: Two weeks ago, in an historic vote reflecting the will of an overwhelming majority of Americans, the U.S. Senate called for an end to President Bush’s misguided war in Iraq. Senator Specter previously criticized the president’s mishandling of the war, yet when given the opportunity to call for an end to the war, he voted in opposition to even the suggestion of a timeline for withdrawing U.S. forces. Faced with the choice of ending the war or “endless war”, the choice of supporting the troops or supporting Bush and his failed policies, Sen. Specter chose the latter in both cases. The people of Pennsylvania, who by a wide margin want to see an end to the war, must hold Sen. Specter accountable for disgracefully misrepresenting us Washington.
