Arlen Specter’s Agenda Today

Today marks the fourth year of our Glorious War in Iraq, and so I decided to ask my Senators how they were acknowledging their Wise and Informed Decision. Since Bobby Casey Junior had nothing to do with this vote, I really only had one phone call to make.

Would you like to know what Arlen Specter is doing to acknowledge this very special day? He’s participating in a “Full committee hearing on “Combating War Profiteering: Are We Doing Enough to Investigate and Prosecute Contracting Fraud and Abuse in Iraq?” , which is odd because Specter not only voted FOR war profiteering, he’s taken $6,000 in campaign contributions from Halliburton, Bechtel, and Parsons. Well, I guess he knows something about war-profiteering, and presumably will be speaking in favor of the practice.

Interestingly, none of his staffers knew what Arlen was up to today: I got the information from his website. No visits with any of the soldiers who came home without arms and legs. No memoriams for the dead. No wreaths laid at the tomb of the unknown soldier.

Oh, wait. Arlen DID have a VERY SPECIAL EVENT planned for today: he announced his own re-election campaign. Specter is “full of energy”. Unlike this fellow:

or this soldier:
soldier2
or this soldier:

soldier3

Of course, expecting Arlen to acknowledge their sacrifice is probably a little unreasonable: after all, if he could sit on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee since 1981 and be throughly ignorant of the debacle at Walter Reed, why should I expect him to offer even the most basic and simple expression of gratitude to those troops that have been fighting George Bush’s Glorious War for the past four years? Why should I expect Arlen Specter to give a fucking RAT’S ASS about the people he sent to go die? Why should I expect wealthy Arlen Specter to give FUCK NUMBER 1 about 3,300 troops fighting so George Bush’s ego doesn’t have to take a dive?

You want to see how someone of character acts? Watch Patrick Murphy, this morning (h/t atrios):

That’s how you say “thanks” Arlen. That’s how you “show your respect.”
