Democrats Abandon War Authority Provision

WASHINGTON – Top House Democrats retreated Monday from an attempt to limit President Bush’s authority for taking military action against Iran as the leadership concentrated on a looming confrontation with the White House over the
Iraq war.

Great. That’s just what I voted for, more of the fucking same. Silly me, I thought “We’re going to rein in the president” meant “we’re going to rein in the President.” When the bombs start to fall, I know who to blame, Nancy. Say, Nan, how many of YOUR kids are stationed in Iraq, how many of your precious grandchildren? Oh yeah, I know the answer to that one: it’s a motherfucking goose egg, baby, flat out fucking ZERO.

Conservative Democrats as well as lawmakers concerned about the possible impact on Israel had argued for the change in strategy.

Translation: Scared of AIPAC.

Rep. Shelley Berkley (news, bio, voting record), D-Nev., said in an interview there is widespread fear in Israel about Iran, which is believed to be seeking nuclear weapons and has expressed unremitting hostility about the Jewish state.

“It would take away perhaps the most important negotiating tool that the U.S. has when it comes to Iran,” she said of the now-abandoned provision.

Israel already has nuclear weapons, by their own admission, and is backed by the most powerful nuclear nation on the planet. Iran isn’t insane.

This whole move smacks of the triangulating bullshit that lost us the Congress in the 1990s. Just fucking stop it.

Oh you fucking pushed my button here babe! I’ve been ranting about AIPAC for years now but what kind of reaction do I get? Fucking zombie stares! They are the most powerful force in the neoconrightwingchristiantelebangelistwarprofiteering mofia in washington today. If you speak against them though you will be whipped with the same tool they use when you speak against the war “you don’t support the troops”, “you are an anti-Semite.” We should be very afraid of this brain washing. What are we going to do? This country is hypnotized.

I don’t know, but one half of my family is jewish, and none of them (except perhaps for uncle dave, MAYBE) are big fans of AIPAC.

Whenever it comes up, I just point out that AIPAC doesn’t speak for all Israelis, and Israel doesn’t speak for all jews.

That’s where everything is conflated: honest criticism of Israel gets labeled “anti-semitism”, which is bullshit. Does that mean that criticism of China for human rights abuses means I’m fanning the “yellow peril” flames? of course not, and no one in their right mind would say so.

It’s a rhetorical trap to change the subject.
