Gregg Easterbrook: Filthy Liar
In the VERY FIRST PARAGRAPH of his New York Times editorial, Gregg Easterbrook parrots a readily debunked canard about Al Gore’s electricity usage.
Why? Why is this ridiculous bullshit allowed to persist? Why? Why why why???
And then, in a single sentence after five paragraphs portraying Gore as a hypocrite “wagging his finger about the energy sins of others”, Easterbrook admits “I may be annoyed by Mr. Gore’s hectoring, but I’m not going to accuse him of hypocrisy on this one.”
That’s a game that’s easy to play. For example, Gregg Easterbrook works for The New Republic, which has lost good writers like Spencer Ackerman because of the former publisher’s vitriolic and demonstrated racism toward Arabs. People who work for magazines that espouse bigoted and racist ideas tend to be racists themselves, and Easterbrook is not only still on the staff at TNR, he’s one of the editors, and clearly aware of TNR’s attitude toward the brown people.
Furthermore, The New Republic and Easterbrook were vocally in favor of war in Iraq. Since there were no weapons of mass destruction, what other reason was there for their war advocacy other than antipathy toward Arabs? And if Easterbrook doesn’t hate Arabs, why does he still work for TNR? Why did he write in favor of the invasion?
I may be annoyed by Gregg Easterbrook’s hectoring, but I’m not going to accuse him of being a racist.
See it’s easy!
