Open Letter to the Nevada Democratic Party
Dear Friends and members of the Nevada Democratic Party:
I have been a member of the Democratic Party for 18 years, and have voted in every single election since 1988. Although our party has sometimes let me down over the past six years, I have still remained a loyal Democrat.
That said, I am perplexed and confused as to why my Democratic colleagues in Nevada would allow FOX News to host the August 2007 Democratic Debate in Reno. Actually, “perplexed and confused” puts too fine a point on it. I think properly stated, I’d like to know, “HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MINDS??”
From
Las Vegas Gleaner:
Consider the September 9, 2003 Democratic debate in Baltimore, Maryland, hosted by Fox News in partnership with the Congressional Black Caucus. Fox News graphics, as well as a banner over the stage, titled the event as the “Democrat Candidate Presidential Debate,” a misconstruction of “Democrat” used as an epithet. Fox News then summarized the debate with a story titled, “Democratic Candidates Offer Grim View of America,” continuing with such jabs as, “The depiction of the president as the root of all evil
began at the top of Tuesday night’s debate….”
The Nevada Democratic Party should not invite FOX to host our Party’s debate. Why not take your cues from Barack Obama, who is so disgusted with Fox’s partisan biases that he refuses to speak to the network at all?
Dumping FOX is all the more important when you consider Brit Hume, who just this weekend all but called Jack Murtha “senile” in a highly personal attack delivered during the news. And then Hume attacked the entire Democratic Party this way:
And think of the Democrats in the middle of this.
They know these facts. They can see them. They know that Iran is up to no good. And what are they worried about? Are they worried about Iran? Not so as you’d notice. What they’re worried about is that the president might do something to Iran without clearing it with them. Wonderful. I mean, think — I mean, this is why the Democratic Party has had this reputation, going back decades, of really not being very serious about national defense. It’s because they aren’t.”
That’s Brit Hume: the host of the Democratic presidential debate in September, 2003 mentioned above.
I urge the Nevada Democratic Party to reconsider: FOX News has a long record of partisan bias against the Democratic Party. We should not invite the GOP’s FOX into our henhouse. Please reconsider.
Sincerely,
Brendan Skwire
