“Men Can’t Keep their Hands Off It.”
I’m not angry the way Aravosis is about the homophobic Snickers ad during the Super-Bowl (I also didn’t know there was an online interactive partner to the ad either), but I will note that there was a widespread gay theme running through pretty much all the ads, ranging from men bitch-slapping each other over a Bud Light, to half-naked men writhing over each other for a Chevy (slogan: “Guys Can’t Keep Their Hands Off It”), to the aforementioned Snickers ad. And on top of it, there was Prince’s performance, which at about the 1:06 point of “Purple Rain” left no doubt as to the meaning of the unpronounceable glyph, that meaning being “I have a very pointy double dick in my pants, and it will FUCK YOU UP, MOTHERFUCKER.”
But I digress.
For a sport that is presented as the territory of straight men, there were an awful lot of references to homosexuality in the commercials. A freakin’ obsession with men. An interest so overwhelming in shirtless men, men kissing, and Prince’s guitar-as-double-death-dingaling, that if I didn’t know better I’d think I was watching an ad buy on LOGO.
Does Do the NFL and its advertisers have something against gay people? Probably not. At this point in time, if you don’t know someone who’s gay, then you probably live in Ted Kaczynski’s cabin in the mountain. An organization as large as the NFL obviously employs gay people: same goes for any ad firm with enough clout to afford a Super Bowl buy.
Does Do the NFL and its advertisers think football fans have some issue with gay people? Only to the extent that it moves product. Fact is, I know plenty of gay people that like football, including at least two guys who played varsity in high school.
I’m not angry about the various ads like Aravosis (I have no dog in the fight as it is), but this whole schoolgirlish shrieking at what two adults do with their genitals has just got to stop. Because honestly, I just want to watch some fucking football. If you simply must try to sell me a car or a beer in between plays, leave your fucking hangups at home.

I thought that the Snickers commercial was one of the funnier ones, but I had no idea of what was on the website.
I didn’t really connect the dots with the ads, but now that you point it out, it does seem kind of odd. Then again, football is a game with a bunch of guys wearing tight shiny pants.
