Biden Buffoonery

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.” Joe Biden, on Barack Obama.

For your review, and in the interest of public service, I present a gallery of those other non-mainstream African Americans who are inarticulate, stupid, filthy, and ugly-looking that Joe Biden’s referring to. WARNING: The following men are known to be negative influences on American children, and may well hate us for our freedoms. Also, they need to bathe, acording to the Senator, who points out that when God was handing out brains, these fellows were standing in line to be whacked with the Ugly Stick.

Poorly spoken. Bad role model.

Don’t even get me started on the damage this joker’s caused what with his anti-violence marches. It just burns Joe Biden and me up the way he gets away with this.

Ditto, and a bad dresser to boot.

Illiterate. Speaks in Ebonics. Hates Freedom. Uses beard to shoplift M&Ms from Wal-Mart.

So there you have it: Joe Biden’s gallery of rogues. Interestingly, one anagram for “Joe Biden” is “I need job.”

Too bad the letters couldn’t be rearranged into “I need brain.”

Joe Biden has sunk immeasurably in my book. What in the world? Love your blog, Brendan.

  2. Phillybits Says:

    Hilarious, Brendan.

  3. Frank Says:

Joe is one of my Senators. I think he’s by and large a fairly decent guy.

But I do wish he’d stop wasting everyone’s time with the want-to-be-president thing.

As a president, he would be a good senator.

  4. Brendan Says:

I’m not a Biden fan, mostly because of the Bankruptcy Bill. Also, i believe he voted for cloture on ALito, but I could be wrong.

  5. The Traveling Guy Says:

The real answer is that Biden, of course, intended to be complementary and stuck his foot in his mouth. No one would do this intentionally.*AND* I believe you are treating his consistently as you did Trent Lott who also stuck his foot in up to his knee.

However, I don’t see the black leaders such as Jesse and Al railing about this as they did with Trent. Biden gets a pass from them.

“AND* I believe you are treating his consistently as you did Trent Lott who also stuck his foot in up to his knee.”

    Well duh. Actually, “well HUH?”

I didn’t start blogging until February 2003, almost 3 months after the Lott incident happened, so I didn’t write about it. But, fwiw, I did make a bunch of prank calls to his office about that time. I claimed to be the only republican in an office full of democrats, and the only white guy too. I asked for advice on what to do, because all my co-workers were giving me dirty looks. “They all know I’m a republican! The guy next to me just called me a cracker! I think he’s gonna kick my ass!” Fun times.

But I’m glad we agree: I am treating Biden consistently with the way I treated Lott.

Also, you mean “complimentary”, not “complementary”. And to that suggestion, I only have Chris Rock’s observation that “when you call someone articulate, that’s not a compliment. That’s what you say when you expect someone to be stupid.” It’s like saying “You’re pretty smart… for a Texan.”

Speaking of Texans, what’s your deal Traveller? Like, what do you do out there in Dallas? Why do you stay there instead of somewhere nicer, like Austin or San Antonio? I’ve been to Dallas a few times, and no offense, but it’s kinda gross (not that Philly’s a prize either, but it’s a different kind of gross here).

  7. The Traveling Guy Says:

Probably the same reason you live in Philadelphia, an older East coast city. You grew up in that area and have friends and family there. But there are also many good reasons to stay here. Housing is inexpensive, labor is inexpensive and entrepreneurs can succeed in Dallas’ business friendly climate.

Seen Ft. Worth? Way K00L!! San Antonio would be a good choice as well. I love the Latino culture. Austin is not acceptable. It’s run by old hippies that went to UT and are now on the city council. Pretty place, but the people suck.

But back to the subject at hand:
I would give both Biden and Lott the benefit of the doubt, a consistent position. You would trash them both for their errors, again a consistent position. My amazement is the MSM and the mainstream black leaders who expose their hipocrisy for all to see by treating these two differently.

  8. The Traveling Guy Says:

Did I mention that Texas has no personal income tax? Nor do the cities or counties.

  9. Brendan Says:

Well yeah. I think that when people say stuff like that they should be called on it, especially people in power. Here in Philly, the mayor (who is black) made some big pronouncement after he got elected about “the brothers and sisters are runnign this town now, you better believe it!” A lot of people, myself included, saw that as unnecessary racially divisive, especially given this city’s history. Citizens have a right to equal treatment under the law, and when politicians say things like biden said (or like Lott) it undermines faith in that impartial treatment. That’s how I was brought up: I watched my mom chase a neighbor off our lawn for circulating a petition trying to keep a black family off of our block.

I do disagree with your characterization of my criticism as “trashing” Mr. Biden or Mr. Lott, which suggests irresponsible claims, character assasination, etc. Biden has a long history of these gaffes, which I backed up with citations. And by the way, Lott (who I’ll remind you again, I haven’t written about) has a much clearer history of racial problems, including speaking engagements with the CCC.

Probably the same reason you live in Philadelphia, an older East coast city. You grew up in that area and have friends and family there.

No, i’m not from Philly: I arrived here via bluegrass music. We were on tour all the time, and Philly was cheap, and more conveniently located to places like NYC, Washington DC, baltimore, and other places where we had a fan base: it’s two hours from Philly to NYC. From western Mass, where I used to live, it was more like four hours. Long story short, I quit the band, got a real job and bought a house.

entrepreneurs can succeed in Dallas’ business friendly climate.
Is that what you do? what industry?

Austin is not acceptable. It’s run by old hippies that went to UT and are now on the city council. Pretty place, but the people suck.
I have conflicted views on Austin. I lived in Northampton MA for years before I moved to Philly, and it was the same. Politically correct hippies who were worried over whether it should be spelled “women” or “womyn”, at the expense of real problems like overdevelopment, sprawl, etc. On the other hand, as a musician, Austin is like heaven. My friend Nate, a pedal steel player, moved back there after a year in Philly, and within a week he was on a global tour with some indie country band (i forget the name). That kind of opportunity is just awesome.

My amazement is the MSM and the mainstream black leaders who expose their hipocrisy for all to see by treating these two differently.

I don’t know what the tv shows down there, but here, Biden’s getting called on it the same way Lott is. BBC reported this morning that his campaign is probably dead in the water now. And then there’s the results of this google search using the terms “joe biden remarks”.

The difference may be that Biden’s party isn’t throwing him under the buss, the way Bush etc did to Lott in 2002. You might be surprised, but I think Lott is a funny guy, even if I don’t agree with his politics: he’s also a guy that can hold a grudge, and he’s been waiting for his revenge for a long time.

I don’t know why (or if) Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton haven’t said anything, but I can hazard a guess. A lot of black activists may have the same attitude as you: they’re giving him the benefit of the doubt, especially considering that the Democrats have generally been friendlier to the black population than the GOP, especially since LBJ. The relationship hasn’t been perfect (I certainly see more lip-service than action), but blacks generally see the Democratic Party as an ally, and the Republic Party, not so much. I’m not a black activist, so I don’t know for sure.

Did I mention that Texas has no personal income tax? Nor do the cities or counties.

What’s your sales tax like? How do you pay for your roads, school for your kids, etc?
Connecticut, where I also used to live, had to impose a state income tax in the early 90s when the economy crashed.

  10. The Traveling Guy Says:

State sales Tax is 6.25% but cities and counties can add their finger in the pie for a maximum of 8.25%. Schools are paid for through propeerty taxes. Not surre how roads are paid for other than gasoline excise tax.
Bear in mind that Texas is an oil producing state. There is a tax at the wellhead for each barrel. I think this is what has saved us from income tax. Businesses are relocating to Texas because of the business climate and that makes for prosperity for all.

    Check THIS out:

    As state coffers overflow
legislators often act more like Santa Claus than the Grinch — but wouldn’t Santa Claus want taxpayers to reap the rewards of a possible $16 Billion budget surplus (that’s right, folks — the surplus is expected to be between $15-16 BILLION). While legislators need to “fund” the property tax cuts, the surplus exceeds even the current overly-generous spending limit in the state constitution.
