Day 4

alcohol, meta, personal well-being January 27th, 2007

On Wednesday morning, after a hard night of drinking and mocking the Pweznit’s widdle speechy-poo, I decided it was high time I took a break from the booze.

Today marks day 4 without a drop of the sauce. Not a bad start for someone who’s been putting away anywhere from 4-6 beers a day, every day, since 1998. Frankly, it hasn’t even been particularly difficult: it’s certainly been easier than taking a break from cigarettes (that’s probably more of an all or nothing proposition anyway, one that I signed onto in March 1992, with absolutely no regrets). I just drink water or ginger ale instead.

I will admit that I’ve been tempted to have a beer, but everytime the thought appears, I can taste Tuesday night’s half-digested beer sloshing around my throat, and the desire passes. Who knows? Maybe my boozehound years are coming to a close…

I feel somewhat responsible (the SOTU drinking game is I guess now a tradition at my house, and I witnessed -and participated in - the final shitfacing… but yea, it’s always good to take a break, re-evaluate etc. For me, it’s the opposite - the Bush administration mostly drives me to drink. I’m working up to listening to the interview President Fuckwad gave Juan Williams online last week. (BUSH! Talked to NPR!!) I think I’ll need a big martini to get through that one.
The interview is available at http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=7077195

Oh you’re not responsible Kate! I was already half-toasted when I got there, thanks to A) a light lunch, and B) a light dinner followed by heavy beer consumption at Drinking Liberally.

Honestly, I’m impressed I made it up and down the stairs to get my coat without doing a Chevy Chase-style pratfall into the bookshelf.

And you’ll need that drink for the Juan Williams “interview”, which appraently was series of softballs. “Would you say you prefer red, white, or blue best on the American flag, O Great leader?” and shit of that ilk..
